Protip: If you’re trying to be supportive of someone, you have to learn to listen to what kind of support they want. Giving the support you have decided they need instead of the support they asked for is not actually supportive. Saying “I’ll write something for you, but it won’t be for you, it will be explaining what you need to do to help me fix this problem” is completely the opposite of what any woman needs right now.
I’ve been there, dude, as a white, cis, middle class woman, I have been told how I can better support transgender people and people of color. I have felt that urge to tell them but, but, but. And I have learned to ignore it in favor of listening to their feelings and supporting them in the ways they need me to.
