The main problem I see with the idea that what some women see as being an ally others see as dis-empowerment is that if you are actually being an ally, it won’t come across as dis-empowering.
Being an ally does not mean having an opinion about what women do with their bodies. I’m not asking men to be an ally to a movement. I’m asking men to be an actual ally to women. This is the difference between saying that “women should be allowed to have abortions because xyz” and saying “I support women because women’s rights are human rights. It is not okay to be taking rights away from women.”
Abortion IS a human rights issue, for everyone. Without safe access to abortion, people die. People dying un-necessarily should always concern other humans.
