This is definitely a cultural shift that needs to occur (like, yesterday). I didn’t know that about David Bowie, and it makes me mad that no one talked about it. It needs to be talked about. The only way anything is ever going to change is if we talk about it. I have talked about Kobe’s rape accusation, but I also don’t think it’s wrong for people to be grieving. I don’t want to make people wrong for feeling sad, that’s not who I am.

I’m a white lady who likes books, and doesn’t follow sports. I am not any sadder about him dying than any other stranger, but I also recognize that other people’s experiences are different. I think it’s okay to talk about what someone did, but you can do that without negating other people’s feelings, and I actually ended up taking down something I posted on Facebook yesterday because it was generating too much negativity in a time where that’s the last thing we need.

I appreciate your voice so much, and your willingness to have conversations with people (me) about race.
